UK Thriller The Gathering Wins Three Golden Nymphs at the 63rd Monte-Carlo Television Festival

Winners of the prestigious Golden Nymph Awards were announced during the closing ceremony of the 63rd Monte-Carlo Television Festival in the Salles Des Princes theater on Tuesday, June 18. Laureates were selected from 18 nominated programs from 11 countries across the Fiction and News & Documentaries Categories as well as the Prince Rainier III Special Prize and received their awards in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco. Other honours were also presented including the Prix du Public in partnership with BetaSeries, the Monaco Red Cross Prize and the AMADE Prize.
The big winner of the night was British thriller The Gathering which won three Golden Nymphs - for Best Series, for Best Actress (Eva Morgan who made her TV debut in the drama) and for Best Actor (Warren Brown who also won the award last year for Ten Pound Poms). The Gathering centres around a violent attack on a teenage girl during a rave on a tidal islet. Set on Merseyside, the drama focuses on a group of teens from disparate backgrounds, each of whom could have committed the crime, along with their parents - who give equal cause for suspicion. The series is produced by World Productions for Channel 4 and distributed by ITV Studios.
The Golden Nymph for Best Film went to Swedish title Little Did I Know, produced by Bigster for Viaplay. The movie tells the story of Petra (played by Alexandra Rapaport), who is in her 50s, and is forced to re-evaluate her life when her husband asks for a divorce. Meanwhile, young Petra (played by newcomer Ella Hammarsten Liedberg) embarks on finding true love. The two women's journeys of self-discovery span different life stages, offering a hopeful yet painful view on love.
Best Creation was given to Madam, produced by Tavake and XYZ Films in association with Fifth Season, which follows Mack (Rachel Griffiths), a woman who discovers her husband is seeing a sex worker, which sets off a chain of events that sees her setting up an ethical brothel.
The Jury's Special Prize was awarded to Shira Haas, who plays a hacker in Israeli psychological drama Night Therapy, produced by Yes TV and Eight Productions. The 10-part series, which launches in Israel in June, tells the story of Louie, an Arab-Israeli psychologist struggling to raise his two children after the suicide of his Jewish wife. To achieve a better work-life balance, he changes his work to the evening hours, creating an alternative form of therapy for his patients.
The BetaSeries Public Prize went to Germany’s Helgoland 513, produced by UFA Fiction for Sky. The dystopian drama focuses on a small community of survivors of an apocalypse that has overrun the rest of the world and plunged it into chaos which is holed up on Germany's only offshore island.
Controversial UK-produced Ukraine’s War: The Other Side by Sean Langan and Tiger Nest Film Production for ITV won Best Documentary category while La guerre de l'info: Israel/Hamas by France.TV Studio and France.TV Presse was selected as Best News Program. France-Italy co-production Broken Dream produced by RAI and Nanof and Cinétévé in France took the Jury Special Prize in the News & Documentary section. The Prince Rainier III Special Prize went to Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion's Wie extrem wird das Wetter, Sven Plöger? – Die Macht des El Niño.
The Amade Prize was awarded to Sweden’s Mines of Death, produced by TV4 while Spanish miniseries The Law of the Sea produced by RTVE and À Punt took the Monaco Red Cross Prize.
The Honorary Golden Nymph Award, the Festival’s highest accolade bestowed upon a renowned professional for their extraordinary contribution to the entertainment industry, was presented to celebrated French actor and director Olivier Marchal (36 quai des Orfèvres, Ne le dis à personne, Braquo, Bronx...) by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
More than 30 exciting and innovative public events gave fans incredible access to engage with their favorites, including a selfie session with the talent from Un Si Grand Soleil, plus autograph signings with cast members from hit shows Chicago Med, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted as well as with stars from the soaps The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, who also attended fabulous Behind The Scenes events. The long-awaited 50th Anniversary of primetime drama Little House on the Prairie held a unique gathering and a special Tea Party. Celebrating its 1000th episode, NCIS stars took part in a Behind The Scenes event and the Festival’s official partner, SLA Paris, once again organized an amazing make-up experience for the public.
More than 1300 interviews were conducted by leading print, internet and TV journalists from more than 36 countries, to showcase brand new series set to launch internationally in the coming months.
The expanded and carefully curated Business Content sessions boasted a line-up of leading industry experts, including Dan Cohen, Chief Content Licensing Officer at Paramount and President Republic pictures and CEO and Executive Producer Lori McCreary at Revelations Entertainment, joined jury and committee members, plus a number of nominated producers in competition, who all shared unique insights into the challenges and opportunities currently facing the global entertainment industry.
